BATTERSEA POWER STATION NEARING COMPLETION
Battersea Power Station Nearing Completion

Battersea Power Station was a working station between the 1930’s and 1980’s. At its peak, Battersea Power Station supplied one fifth of the electricity to London. Until the current shareholders purchased the site in 2012, it had sat derelict and disused since its decommission in 1982. Purcell Architects were commissioned alongside Wilkinson Eyre and tracked Northcot down as being the manufacturer of the bricks supplied to Battersea Power Station when work began in the 1930’s. We were then called Northwick Brick and Tile Works. Recapturing original Architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s vision, we developed three blends to match the differing periods in which the power station was built. We have supplied over one million bricks and special shapes to the redevelopment of this iconic landmark. The 42 acre site has been re-developed into homes, shops, offices, restaurants and cultural venues to be enjoyed by the local community.

THE BRICKMAKERS QUALITY CHARTER

The Brick Development Association launched The Brickmakers Quality Charter on 1st March. After applying for the scheme, we are delighted to now be a charter holder. Brickmakers using the BQC logo are recognised as being a manufacturer of clay bricks to a set of internationally recognised product labour, quality, energy and environmental standards giving consumers confidence in the product they are buying.

SUSTAINABILITY

Over the past 15 years, we have reduced our natural gas consumption by over 20% by using Best Available Techniques (BAT) and capital investment. Our on site solar farm along with BAT has enabled us to reduce our electricity usage by around 12% and we are pleased to confirm that we have secured our current power contract using only energy from renewable sources. Carbon emissions have been reduced on a year by year basis again, using BAT including reduction in energy used, the introduction of non-carbonous body grogging materials and recyclable materials in the production process.
